Compassionate Therapist for Postpartum, Infertility, and Pregnancy in Miami, FL

MEET DR. LIZ CULNAN, PHD

Dr. Liz Culnan is a licensed clinical health psychologist and part of the Natal Counseling team, a practice specializing exclusively in reproductive and perinatal mental health. She provides compassionate, evidence-based therapy for women navigating postpartum, infertility, miscarriage, and pregnancy-related transitions, with advanced training in behavioral sleep medicine.

Her work is especially supportive for women who feel exhausted, overwhelmed, or unlike themselves during the postpartum period or while navigating the emotional complexity of family building.

Why Choose a Reproductive Psychologist for Your Family-Building Journey

You’ve been getting through the days. Functioning. Managing. Holding it all together. But inside, you know this isn’t how you want to live. You’re ready for more than survival mode. You’re ready to feel like yourself again.

That’s what Natal Counseling was built for. We specialize exclusively in the emotional realities of family building, so you can stop explaining your experiences and start receiving support that actually fits your life. Every therapist on our team is a reproductive psychologist, which means we understand the complexities of infertility, miscarriage, pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood on both a psychological and physiological level.

This means you’re working with experts who:

  • Understand the complex interplay between your body, hormones, and nervous system during family building.

  • Recognize how grief, loss, and the uncertainty of infertility or high-risk pregnancy affect mood, decision-making, and daily life.

  • Offer targeted interventions that help you regulate your nervous system, manage stress, and rebuild trust in yourself.

When you choose Natal Counseling, you’re choosing more than a therapist—you’re choosing a team that truly gets it from the inside out.

About Dr. Liz Culnan

Dr. Culnan’s mission is to help you find meaning, stability, and relief during some of life’s most demanding transitions. She supports clients in moving through emotional overwhelm, processing difficult experiences, and building the skills needed to feel more present and connected in their daily lives.

Her work focuses on helping you not just get through this season—but feel more like yourself within it.

Dr. Culnan’s own path to parenthood included a pregnancy complication requiring frequent monitoring while working full-time, giving birth during the height of the pandemic, and navigating earlier weaning than expected during the nationwide formula shortage. Balancing these challenges while caring for a newborn and continuing to work gave her a deep understanding of how overwhelming and unsupported this stage of life can feel.

This lived experience informs her work, allowing her to support clients with both clinical expertise and genuine empathy.

Approach

Dr. Culnan’s approach to therapy is warm, supportive, and collaborative. She integrates evidence-based therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy to tailor her approach to each client.

During the first few therapy sessions, she works with clients to explore their background and experiences and to set therapy goals that are meaningful to them. Their work together may include:

  • Learning to mindfully process and gain distance from challenging emotions and thoughts

  • Increasing self-compassion

  • Improving sleep and reducing the “wired but exhausted” feeling

  • Processing traumatic experiences

  • Re-engaging with life in a meaningful way

Therapy is tailored to your unique experience—whether you are adjusting to postpartum life, coping with infertility, or processing miscarriage—so you can feel more grounded, supported, and steady.
